Overexcitement in Exercise Leads to Behavior Issues

I run into this a lot with my clients who have young athletic dogs. Taking your dog out back and tossing the ball for an hour won't resolve hyperactivity. Your dog will nap for 30 minutes and ramp back up like a gladiator.  Why is your dog still hyperactive?

Imagine if you took your kid, friend's kid or nephew to the amusement park everyday as opposed to teaching him how to play a sport or learn a martial art. The former is unbridled excitement and the later demands input from the body and mind.

Instead, try taking your dog on a structured walk. Then if your dog still needs more exercise you can incorporate fetch or other games as a reward.  This will drain your dog's energy both mentally and physically.
